we thought about that...
right now you can send a ship request to the administration with this page:
http://www.spacetrace.org/research_new.php
(see also this post: http://forum.spacetrace.org/viewtopic.php?topic=425&forum=12 )

but this is not automatized ( the administration will finally decide about the ship request). I tell now why:

first
it is too complicated to program a routine that would automatically calculate manpower (MP). this problem is indeed very complex.
example:
mine-deployer
this ship deployes a mine (0/1) between the enemy ships of class 2 that deals 10 damage to an enemy ship.

attack/life: 0/1
manpower: 5

researchtime: 1 d
buildingtime: 10 h

an automatic mp-calculator needs to "understand" this ships and how it works otherwise the game-balance would suffer.

if the program should "understand" this ship it needs to understand the ship it creates (mine) and so on...

this is very complicated and will lead to ->

second
if the ship creation would be calculated by a program the main goal for the players would be to determine the weaknesses of the ship-calculator.
i think this is boring and it is more fun to have an moderated (by humans) game. this leads to a more interesting ship-balance.

but you can send with that page (shown above) as many ship request as you wish... and we hope you will do (because we would like to have more ships)

the request page will be visible in the research-page next round when you have researched more than 10 researches (for n==bs it is too complicated) but you can always use this link here from the forum too (you have to be logged in into the game before, to see the page)

Umm...

I am logged in into the game and I still can't load the page... Do you have an idea why? Could it have something to do with my cookies (I had some problems with them when I started in the second round)

Hey I didn't know you also can log in at spacetrace.com cause it was shut down quite a time ago...
It actually can't be anything about logging in because I logged in the third time (without logging out the other two times ) and I still can't use the page.
If it might have something to do with my cookies: They're turned off but it also changes nothing if I turn them on...the problem might be I can't log in when they're turned on (?)

i inserted the new research page in the regular research screen now.

everyone that has finished now more than 15 researches is assumed to be experienced enough to request new ones now.

that should be fixed too now

---------------------------------------------

at the moment if you insert a wrong modifier, you get no clear result at the moment, we will improve that later.

you can test the modifier easily:

if there are more events, use this sign to split them: "|"

then after each first word, there are the options separated with kommata.

here is an easy example:

f|mod,enemy,1,this,bomb,+,0,-10,bomb exploded|sd

the translation of this modifier is:
  1. fights(battle engine syntax: f)

  2. modifies AP/LP by 0/-10 of 1 bomb in the enemy fleet in the same class
battlemessage: "bomb exploded ... ships"(battle engine syntax: mod,enemy,1,this,bomb,+,0,-10,bomb exploded)

  3. self destruction!(battle engine syntax: sd)

The battle-engine tester (or how do you call it?) works perfect now!
Thanks, admin!
